Have you considered WHY it’s important to take care of our bodies?
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says:
It’s super important to understand that our bodies are God’s new temple!
In the Old Testament, God’s temple was a physical place where God’s spirit dwelled, and only a lucky few got to be in God’s presence. But once Jesus died for us and he sent the Holy Spirit to live IN us, God’s temple is now our bodies, and we all have full access to Him and His power! That’s pretty awesome if you stop and think about it.
Many fitness people will focus on taking care of the body for the outer appearance only, but I want to focus on something deeper than that. I want to focus on taking care of our bodies to honor God and position ourselves to take steps of obedience when He asks.
When we feel good physically, it’s easier to focus on positive things like what He’s doing in our life and what He’s got in store for us. But when we don’t take care of our bodies and instead fill them with junk physically and mentally, it’s easier to get stuck inside our own heads and focus on things that will trip us up.
The more we take care of our bodies, the better we’ll feel physically & mentally, the better we’re able to put aside our fears and doubts, and the better we’re able to step outside our comfort zones…and this leads to stepping INTO the role(s) God has planned for us.
This does not mean that God cannot use us if we’re sick or unable to exercise – in fact, sometimes it’s through illness, injuries, and hardships that God will teach us our most valuable lessons and use us to turn others toward Him. But for anyone who is able-bodied, can we consider how our exercise can be a form of worship and a way to open ourselves up to God’s purposes?
Who knows what our imaginative Creator has in store for us, but let’s not miss the opportunities! Let’s take care of our bodies so we position ourselves to be used for the good of His kingdom.
